about

These three songs (& a few fun covers) were recorded in the basement of Widdershins House, Maple Leaf, Seattle, in June of 2014. Sheridan Riley played the drums, I played the guitar & sang. Ian McKagan set up the mics & ran the multitracklaptop rig.

I gradually but gradually have selected three takes, made minor edits, rerecorded somebunall vocals, added additional guitars & bass & maybe other things I forget, mixed, mastered, designed artwork, & three years later here you go. (In my defense I was doing a lot of other things at the same time.)

Point of interest, neither Sheridan or I lived in Seattle in June of 2014. We were here as The Flown Ups, recording improv with John Leighton Beezer. I moved back here a few months later (never really viewed L.A. as anything but an extended hiatus from the Northwest), Sheridan arrived a few months after that.

It came out beautiful. Enjoy!

ALBRIGHT & KALM

Always free at Sidehill, where the water runs wide
Unearthly keen-walkin coxswain
The sun there's what we ride
They-all's c'mere hips ring in your heart kitchen mind & your hair
There by art-play
Tonight we ride somewhere

Achey Bast accostin a fast boat to Boston
The truth is in the telling
Her long bobtail seething
Sidehill concoction in your pine lair, Austin
Lost bell belling
Depot no handle no driving

1000-yr-old Moon
Dusting off her wings
Smiling over the palms
All bright & calm

Sting of sodden wits
Photo the grouse near Mayan dolls
Beast side, vexed breast—remember?
Lover, sing a psalm of light mystic calm
Bite you honest, hellevator descender

1000-yr-old Moon
Dusting off her wings
Smiling over the palms
All bright & calm

SNOWJOB

The need to know, the need to know
Everything & then some
The rain could turn to gold & still their thirst would not be slaked
To land like fallen rainbows in the valley of the phantom
To sleepwalk through eternal information
To never wake

Snowed in
Snowed out
No one can tell what the story is about
Snowed under & stowed away
Someone is listening to everything you say

Areas of blindness in the all-perceiving eye
They can tell you anything except for where's the plane
Except for who it was gave him the drugs & why
They can count the ripples on your brain

Snowed in
Snowed out
No one can tell what the story is about
Snowed under & stowed away
Someone is listening to everything you say

Hear the spiders singing inside the walls?
The great ship is going down & with it goes us all
From here to the end of the Universe & all points in between
To do is to be done unto
To see is to be seen

Snowed in
Snowed out
No one can tell what the story is about
Snowed under & stowed away
Someone is listening to everything you say

GLASS BOTTOM GUITAR

Put your fingers on the speakers
Touch the receiver to your scars
I will blow sweet smoke through your stereo
Touch foreheads between the bars of your cage
I will be with you on your wedding night
Just beyond the reach of light
Waiting behind the curtain to put you back together again
I am rising like the sun, shining like Mercury or Mars
Sailing past the Moon on a glass bottom guitar

You can see just everything from here
All spaces & times
All the lives I ever lived laid out in a line
I never met a saint or a favorite son
Maybe I'll come back as one
Maybe we'll come back together
The best moment is forever
Leave my body for the mushrooms & moss like you would an old rusty car
I am sailing past the Moon on a glass bottom guitar

Rising like the sun, sailing past the moon
I am sailing past the Moon on a glass bottom guitar
