"After the Effect is a collection of eleven works dealing with multi-tracking. My process in creating these songs blurred the line between composing and improvising: every song contains improvised elements (at the very least the melody), and pre-composed elements as well. Multi-tracking, and the concomitant possibilities of harmonic and rhythmic complexity is an exciting and inspiring way to work with the trumpet, as it neutralizes the natural inability of a single trumpet to be an effective chordal or polyphonic instrument. Very few of the works on this 'album' are finished works, rather they are sketches and explorations; a series of possibilities only glimpsed briefly."
